My mother, sister and I came on a dependent ship near this time and lived in a aprtment downtown Casablanca. I am returning to Morocco for the first time since 1956 to study archaeological sites. I wanted to thank you for the pictures of the base in the early stages. I went to the elementary school on base, and of course we thought it was a great adventure. 11/25/05 |

| Comments: | I was stationed at Smyrna from 1960 -1963. I worked out of the big hanger APG then N-1 compass and flight director systems. I laned there coming back from Birmingham about 15 years ago. It seened strange sitting in my Bonanza with no C-130's on the field. It looked desolate and I felt like a spect of pepper in the salt sitting on the vast ramp where there used to be 6 flying squadrons. Anyone there during my years let me hear from you. |

| Comments: | Name: Henry Propp (Hank) I was at Djenane Krater once doing the originally sighting for radar and communications equipment to be installed. This was before the people were assigned there, although there where a few guys there. When I was leaving French Morocco in June of 1953 they were just starting to man the site. For eight months or so I was involved in establishing the site at Saidia which was about 70 miles north of Oujida (I don't think the spelling is correct) and your site was west of Oujida as I remember, I remember it being pretty flat around Djenane Krater. There was another site at Soulk El Arber, I backed a truck into a bar there. I may have some pictures of Saidia site and the mountain near Noussour AFB . |

| Comments: | I was stationed at Site Y3, Djenane Krater, Morocco from Apr 59 to Apr 60. I worked in the Orderly Room as a A/2C Personnel Clerk. This was my first permanent duty station -- I came straight out of Tech School at Lackland AFB, TX. As isolated as this tour of duty was I have to admit this was the most memorable and enjoyable assignment I had, much better than Vietnam. I believe this was because of the comradie of all the 100 or so people assigned. Everyone that was assigned there that I have corresponded with agree with my assesment. PS: Bob those photos and comments you have on your site Y3 web site are great. It gives us an idea of the hardships, etc that the initial team had to endure. |
